The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Spain, ESA’s new scientific heart, was inaugurated by Spanish royalty, their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Asturias in February 2008. This event which was also attended by the Spanish Minister for Industry, the Head of the Spanish Delegation to ESA, and ESA’s Director of Science, as well as by representatives of central, regional and local Governments and the aerospace sector was held in the existing building B.
To give space and an adequate frame to such an important event for ESAC, Bieniussa/Martínez Architects were commissioned which the extension of the entrance hall and a redevelopment of the conference room.
El European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC), fue inaugurado como Centro Científico de la ESA en España por la Familia Real española, sus Majestades los Príncipes de Asturias, en febrero de 2008. Dicho evento, al que también asistieron el Ministro de Industria, el Director de la Delegación de la ESA en España y el Director de Ciencia de la ESA, así como representantes del gobierno central, regional y local y representantes del sector Aeroespacial español, tuvo lugar en el edificio central del ESAC en Villanueva de la Cañada.
Para dar cabida y un marco adecuado a un acontecimiento tan importante para el ESAC, que hasta el momento había sido una estación de seguimiento de satélites, se encargó a Bieniussa/Martínez Arquitectos la ampliación y remodelación del Hall y de la sala de conferencias del edificio principal del centro.
Das spanische Zentrum der Europäischen Weltraumbehörde ESA „European Space Astronomy Centre“ (ESAC), das neue wissenschaftliche Herz von ESA, wurde von dem spanischen Königshaus, Ihren Königlichen Hoheiten Fürst und Fürstin von Asturien, im Februar 2008 eingeweiht. Diese Veranstaltung, der auch der spanische Minister für Industrie, der Leiter der spanischen Delegation der ESA und der ESA-Direktor für Wissenschaft, sowie Vertreter der zentralen, regionalen und lokalen Regierungen als auch des Luft-und Raumfahrt-Sektors beiwohnten, fand in dem bestehende Gebäude B statt.
Um diesem bedeutenden Ereignis für ESAC Raum und angemessenen Rahmen zu geben, wurden Bieniussa/Martínez Architekten mit der Erweiterung der Eingangshalle und der Sanierung des Konferenzraums beauftragt.
